Welcome!

I’m Mary. I’m a Community Nutrition Registered Dietitian and Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with a background in nutrition, culinary arts and food systems. I work at a local farmer’s market and practice nutrition through individual counseling, community events, and consulting. Keep scrolling to learn more about my philosophy and approach!

 

my mission

My work is centered on eating disorder prevention and local food systems. My mission is to promote positive relationships with our food, our bodies, our community. My ongoing goal is to research, question, explore, and teach about food from many angles, in order to deepen my understanding of “health and wellness”, as it pertains to the individual and the collective. Which is definitely complicated. Health is impacted by so many things! So how do I help as a dietitian?

I see it as a two-prong approach: optimizing individual wellness within their circumstances; while simultaneously educating and advocating for racial justice, health equity, food justice, economic justice, and other systemic factors that influence health outcomes (pictured here), in order to improve collective wellness. I am trying to continuously learn and provide support wherever I can to help both individuals as well as my community on the whole. my approach

I aim to practice with a non-diet, community-centered, and weight-inclusive approach to health and nutrition. My practice is informed by Food Sovereignty, Health at Every Size™ and Intuitive Eating frameworks.

Health & wellness go way beyond the plate, so even though I’m a Dietitian, I explore other aspects of food besides its nutrition. The “how”, “where”, “why”, and “with who” are just as important as “what” we eat!

The way in which communities grow, distribute, access, cook, celebrate, teach, and talk about food is a part of that. A community’s food reality is shaped by national and global systems that impact individual circumstances. Through conversations and collaboration, I hope to build critical connections to learn and problem-solve together.
